We recently visited the Milwaukee County Zoo, and had so much fun. We thought we would share our Top Things to Do at the Milwaukee County Zoo.
Our family loves a Zoo day. There is something for everyone and it’s a great way to see our Animal friends and enjoy some time together as a family.
.
The zoo is located just outside of the downtown Milwaukee, the zoo is open year around but the hours do vary by season. The zoo also closes year around by 5 pm to give those fury critters time to get ready for bed.
Admission
Admission rates vary by season as well with parking and admission ranging anywhere from $11.25-$16.75 for ages 3 and up. Children under 2 are always free.
There are also family free days that happen one Saturday a month from January-March and October-December.
How long does it take to get through the zoo?
When we visit the zoo it can easily turn into a full day experience. From seeing our favorite animals to exploring the zoo on the train and enjoying a picnic amongst the animals.
If your not looking to experience the entirety of the zoo, we would say you could see most of it in about 2-3 hours.
Ok, let’s move on to all the things you can do around the zoo.
Safari Train
Besides seeing the animals this has always been by children’s favorite activity at the zoo.
This miniature steam train takes you on a relaxing ride through the zoo going over bridges and through beautiful forests. My children still love waving at all the visitors as they zoom by.
The train is open daily, April through October from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
We love the fact that it is pretty inexpensive to ride with a cost of only $4 plus tax for Adults and children.
Carousel
Enjoy a menagerie of lions, tigers and bears as you twirl around on their beautiful carousel. This is located to the left of the entrance next to the train ride.
It’s open daily from March through November from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Again, this is another great ride especially for younger children and their parents, with a cost of $3 plus tax.
Sky adventure zip line and ropes course
This is our children’s new favorite experience at the zoo. The ropes course is a 4-story adventure of beams, cargo nets and ladders the your children can climb and explore.
Note: there is a height/weight requirement and the children are safely placed in a safety harness by a zoo member prior to the start. There is also a smaller course for younger children as well.
The ropes and zip line are open May 7 through September 30 (weather permitting) from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
The cost of these experiences are a bit more ranging from $15 to $30 per person plus tax.
Sky Safari
Grab a view of the zoo from above via their chair lift. We have yet to experience this but from the looks of it, it looks like a very relaxing way to check out the zoo.
Children 3+ are permitted to ride and the cost is $4 per adult and children.
Animal Activities
There are several different activities that we love seeing when at the zoo. One of our favorites is animal feeding time and educational talks.
There are several locations such as the elephants, bats, camels, aquatic and reptile center, small mammals, big cats and the harbor seals.
You can catch an up close view of what these animals like to munch on and learn more about some of your favorite animals. Click here to check out the full schedule.
Goat Yard
One of the final favorites and where we usually end each trip is a stop at the goat yard to feed the adorable Nigerian dwarf goats. Make sure to bring your quarters to purchase pellets, and don’t forget to was your hands after.
These are only a few of the many things you can do to enjoy the Milwaukee Zoo with your furry friends. To check out all the information and pricing around the zoo check out the Milwaukee Zoo website.
