A resort where you can enjoy the beauty and magic of rural Louisiana. We are going to share our Top 5 Reasons To Stay At Port Orleans: Riverside.
We recently shared one of our favorite deluxe resorts on Disney property, the Riviera Resort. If you are interested in learning more about this gorgeous resort check out : 6 Reasons To Stay At Disney’s Riviera Resort.
If you’re looking for a resort that is just as nice but a little easier on your bank account we would recommend checking our Port Orleans: Riverside. This resort is considered a moderate resort with, what we think, the beauty of a deluxe resort.
At this resort you will find white column mansions and cozy backwood cottages nestled in along side beautiful magnolia trees and the Sassagoula River.
Accomodations
Unique to this resort, you will find royal guest rooms fit for a prince or princess. Inspired by the movie Princess And The Frog, these rooms are perfect for your “royal family”.
Sleeping up to 4 guests, these rooms have the most amazing theming and a magical “Fireworks” head board that will peacefully put your children to sleep each night.
We were unable to book one of these rooms on our last trip, however you can check out the Walt Disney World Website to see photos of these magical rooms.
On previous trips we have stayed in a preferred room with views of the Bayou. The view was beautiful and was such a perfect view to enjoy your morning coffee. This room had king bed and slept up to 2 adults.
We have also stayed in a standard room with 2 queen sized beds that fit up to 4 people. Both rooms were spacious and comfortable, and the theming included touches from Princess and the Frog.
They also had a variety of other rooms with pool, woods or garden views, complete with a hair dryer, free Wi-Fi, in-room safe, coffee maker, iron & ironing board and a mini fridge.
Walking Path To Port Orleans French Quarter
One of my husband and I’s favorite things to do each morning while in Disney is to make a coffee in our room and go for a peaceful morning walk.
Port Orleans Riverside has one of the most beautiful walking paths on Disney property. The path parallels with the Sassagoula river, which makes for a gorgeous sunrise stroll.
The path also extends all the way to Port Orleans French Quarter where you can explore the cobblestone streets, magnolia blossoms and the sounds of jazz. And don’t forget to grab the famous Mickey Beignets from Scat Cat’s Club.
After exploring French Quarter for a bit we usually make our way back on the path to Riverside, order breakfast along from Riverside Mill Food Court before heading back to our room.
Swimmin’ hole
Inspired by the story Tom Sawyer, this swimming pool is fun for all ages. The pool is huge with so much room for the kids to splash around and a water slide to keep the kids entertained all day.
Make sure you check the activity schedule for special pool events. My kids had so much fun at the glow party. The cast members gave the kids free glow bracelets and necklaces, played music and games.
Not to worry adults, there is a hot tub and you can purchase snack and drinks from Muddy Rivers pool bar to enjoy while your kids play in the pool.
Riverside Mill Food Court
On a Disney vacation who doesn’t think about all the food? Riverside Mill food court is a great dinning option during your stay at Port Orleans Riverside, just look for the big red mill wheel.
Here you can get breakfast, lunch and dinner plus additional snacks and beverages. Our favorite part was that the cast members were fantastic when it came to allergy friendly meals. We typically mobile ordered, which was super convenient and they had allergy friendly menus for each specific allergy.
Here is the full menu and if you’re looking for the allergy friendly options just scroll to the bottom of the menu.
If you have never used mobile order you can order food for select restaurants around Walt Disney World on the myDisneyExperience App.
The best part about this, is you can order on your way back from the parks, hit “I’m Here” when you are close to arriving and they will have the food ready so you can grab it and go back to your room.
There are several other dining options at Port Orleans like River Roost lounge, Muddy Rivers pool bar, Boatwright’s Dining Hall where you will find New Orleans home cookin.
Disney River Boats
The other part of why this resort is so great are the river boats. From Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter you can take the river boat to Disney Springs. The ride is so peaceful and what better way to make your way to a fun filled day/night at Disney Springs.
Port Orleans Riverside also has Disney buses to get you to and from the Disney parks.
These are just a few of the main reasons why we love this resort so much. If you haven’t stayed at Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter we highly recommend you do on you next trip!
