If you’re heading to Disney’s Aulani Resort and Spa, then you can’t miss the enchanting and unforgettable Lū’au. Of course there are other Lū’au’s on the island however you can’t beat the entertainment that Disney offers.
This exciting dining experience is perfect for the entire family and will take you through the history of what brought the ancient explorers to Ko Olina.
It’s a dining experience you won’t want to miss. Here are our Top 3 Reasons You Should experience the Lū’au at Disney’s Aulani Resort and Spa.
Pre-Show Festivities
The pre-show activities was our kids favorite part of the entire experience. The activities included traditional Hawaiian arts such as flower bracelet making, Hawaiian temporary tattoos and ukulele lessons.
Our kids also learned about the ancient Hawaiian way to eat taro (a root vegetable) called Poi.
This root vegetable is cooked for several hours and then is pounded over and over until it forms into a smooth paste.
Poi was pretty bland and our kids were not a huge fan but it was still fun to try and to learn about a common food in the Hawaiian culture.
Delicious Buffet-style dining
We are usually not big fans of buffet-style dining, however we couldn’t say one bad thing about this dining experience.
The authentic island food was amazing and included things like sea salt-crusted prime rib, local sea food and produce, desserts, poke, and other Hawaiian favorites. They also had kid-friendly bento dinner for the little ones.
If you are a family with allergies like we are, the chef goes above and beyond to make sure your experience is nothing short of wonderful.
We were personally taken by the chef through the buffet line prior to the start of the dinner. He explained what foods were safe for each us to eat based on our allergies and also made special dishes that were not on the menu to make sure we had the full dining experience.
He even made me my own dairy free Mickey brownie shown below since all of the desserts in the buffet had some form of dairy in them.
Lū’au Show
To top of the delicious meal, you are taken through an enchanting performance that brings the Hawaiian culture and it’s history to life.
This experience was so much fun. The beautiful colors, dance and story telling of the Hawaiian culture was breathtaking, and the interactive dancing and singing between the performers and the crowd made it fun for the entire family.
